Every first weekend of August on Highway 127 the Worlds Longest Yard Sale happens. Along hwy 127 from Gadsden, AL to Addison, MI – 690 miles, 6 states, anything from barn sales, fairgrounds, open fields, parking lots to individual houses. It’s a scavengers paradise.

It doesn’t matter what you are looking for – something specific or just whatever you can find – furniture, old and new, bottles & jars, dishes, parts & tools, it’s sure to be found. There’s something for everyone.

Not to mention along the route are additional shopping opportunities with local merchants and entertainment adventures to enjoy.

This August 2025, we lodged on Lookout Mountain as a home base and ventured out from there. We could not go to Chattanooga, stay on Lookout Mountain and not visit Rock City Gardens.

Lookout Mountain Inn is a 100 year old motel that also offers cottages. The cottages have been updated and include a hot tub and comfortable beds. Each night stay also receives a complimentary breakfast every morning. Best of all, the new owners are part of an individual co-op company and the Inn still has a homey feel.
